What is something you’d like to ask GACKT about his identity or culture?

Something GACKT talks about a lot is identity, and how people should act depending on the group they identify with. He often describes his ideals for how men, or Japanese people should deal with the modern world. However, a lot of his views can be difficult for people from different cultural backgrounds to get their head around. It would definitely be interesting to sit him down and ask him questions on his identity, for example, as a man, an artist, a Japanese person, or an Okinawan.

  1. I’d say GACKT-san, what motivates you the most? What made you want to become an artist? Family background or cultural influences?

  2. I would like to ask about his identity as an artist, his source of inspiration for each project, and his creative process.

  3. Ok, this may seem like a vague question, but that’s how I like them, with lots of room to think and let your thoughts go where they please.
    My question is:
How do you want to be remembered?

  4. “Gackto-sama,” she said, trying to keep her voice even. “Um, I was wondering: Besides being an artist, singer and actor, what role do you think you have in your culture as a whole?”

He’s a big picture guy: I get that from all of his blogs. As such, I can’t help but wonder what part he thinks he plays in that big picture of his home, or maybe even the rest of the world. Is he just a singer/songwriter, or does he have some bigger part he’d like to occupy?

Oh, and the rest is the tendency I have to go dry at the mouth when meeting people I admire. I just never know what to say, and I’d be beyond nervous.

  5. I think it would have to be what was the defining moment when he realized that nothing was going to be the same for him. I guess the moment he realized he was GACKT.

  6. I think it would have to be what was the defining moment when he realized that nothing was going to be the same for him. I guess the moment he realized he was GACKT.

  7. A Japanese co-worker who knew I liked GACKT once said to me, “Isn’t he from Okinawa? But his skin is so fair!” Going off that, I’d ask GACKT what he thinks about Japanese people’s ideas on being “Japanese enough” or “Okinawan enough.”

  8. I’d like to ask him how much he’s proud of being Japanese, how much he loves Japan, and why.

  9. I want to know if he believes in reincarnation & if he does if he has any memories of past lives.

  10. Hmmm…I think I would ask “From everywhere you go, everything you learn you apply to yourself?” Learning from other cultures.

  11. Dear GACKTさん,
the topics of losing a lover/loved one and being re-born to meet them again some day, are very present in your songs and creations. How comes these topics are so important to you. And after having lost partners one or the other way, have you given up on love or relationship for yourself?

  12. “So, at first you say that Aventador is perfect, then that you prefer the Murcielago… Let’s be honest here… You really liked the Bugatti, right?”

  13. I would like to ask him if he believes in any kind of supernatural/extraterrestrial stuff and if he had encounters with things from another world in his life (besides the things from his childhood) and what he thinks about it, how he deals with it etc…

  14. I would ask him about his personal metamorphosis from the early days until now. Has his view of himself changed? What has he learned about himself with his journey?

  15. I’d like to ask him a lot about Okinawan culture, since there aren’t a lot of resources on it, particularly in English.

Then he can lecture me about the future of Japan.

Finally, I’d like him to explain some of his views on men and women further (while I bite my tongue and try not to argue)

  16. I want to ask him about everything. but I’m pretty sure we’re gonna argue at every single discussion!
But I’m gonna ask anyway! starting with himself. like who the real Gackt is…

  17. I would ask him if there was anything in his previous years out of his control that he could’ve affected, what would it be? likely that’s a deeply personal question and I would stop myself before it got out.
