ARROW

GACKT /*ALBUM TITLE lyrics

Dance, wind
Until you bid farewell to the dried up land
Scorch the night sky

Into the darkness
I’ll fire the last arrow towards a still unseen future1
Until I fall

If some day everyone will turn to dust and disappear
then I alone want to remain like this and laugh at it until the end2

I know it,
it’s full of terrors, enough to make me tremble
Smiling by your side
I’ll rot away

Dance, wind
Until you bid farewell to the dried up land
Scorch the night sky

Into the darkness
I’ll fire the last arrow towards a still unseen future
Until you fall
Stay beautiful

The rain that erodes the silence questions the cracked earth
“What meaning is there in fighting to the death?”

I know it,
it torments me, but there’s not a thing I can change
Until we reach the depths of hell
Let us burn

Until the traces of the tears you shed vanished,
floating in the rain
I just watched

Holding our dreams
I pulled your disintegrating body close
May my prayer reach you
Rest in peace

It ends like this
without even being able to say goodbye
So at least, if we are to be reborn
I want to meet you again like on that day

Dance, wind
Until the moment when the dawn burns me to dust3
I will wager my life

My breath against yours
I’ll hold you and fire the last arrow
along with a farewell

The future we imagined
still won’t come to call
but close your eyes

That shining day…
When we gave each other innocent smiles…
So the dream that we dreamed that day can come true

Fall beautifully!4

NOTES

The spoken lines in the middle are a reference to the Oath of the Peach Garden from the 14th century Chinese novel Romance of the Three Kingdoms, which was also quoted repeatedly in various MOON SAGA related things:
warera umareta hi toki wa chigaedomo
warera onaji hi ni shinu koto wo negau
mata kitto kitto deaeru sa
“Though we were not born on the same day
we wish to die on the same day
We will surely, surely meet again”

1. Sung asu “tomorrow” written 未来 mirai “future”
2. The kanji used for “laugh” (嗤) indicates scornful or mocking laughter
3. Sung toki “when”, written 瞬間 shunkan “instant”
4. 散る chiru means “to fall” or “to scatter” like leaves or petals, but is also a poetic way to say “die”
